Youth program & development manager

Full-Time Position, Salaried with Benefits

This position is for an individual who enjoys working with youth, being outdoors, and creating long-term relationships with groups and organizations in the community. This job will include many responsibilities, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful nature experience for youth! This position takes ownership in Lake Cunningham’s day programs and enjoys infusing their own creativity and talents into their weekly schedules. Not only will you oversee all youth activities and equipment, but you will also be asked to coordinate scheduled recreation programming events, plan and communicate logistics, and manage other part-time Youth Leader staff. This position will oversee the expansion of youth programming at Lake Cunningham and nurture community relationships and partnerships at the C.

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or similar experience
  • Must be willing to devote time to planning and executing scheduled programs and establish positive relationships with different youth groups and organizations in the community
  • Preferred prior youth experience or have been in a leadership role with youth
  • Must be CPR certified or willing to become certified
  • Each applicant will require a full background check
  • Work with groups in the community to provide a fun, safe, and exciting Lake Cunningham nature experience
  • Communicate via phone and email and coordinate monthly program schedules with various groups and organizations in the community
  • Manage part-time youth leaders and work with Lake Cunningham Maintenance team to help coordinate preparation for activities
  • Seek out new partnerships within the community and grant writing opportunities
  • Plan seasonal events based around youth groups
  • Establish Lake Cunningham emergency plans and safety procedures
  • Manage all recreation supplies and inventory
  • Ability to cook over a bonfire and assist kids with their meal preparation
  • Manage any issues that may arise with youth programming
  • Assists in other staff duties and is willing to be cross-trained in other office/operational responsibilities
  • Ability to work with children to grow character, experiences, and insights
  • Knowledge and experience with camp program and planning
  • Organized in building an annual programming calendar
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, dependable, level-headed, flexible, and calm in all situations
  • CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing to become certified before the summer begins
  • Driven and team-oriented
  • Demonstrates strong team leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Campground Host

The Campground Host position is for an individual, over the age of 19, who is willing to be an ambassador of Lake Cunningham Campground and Recreation Area for others. The Host position operates from a complimentary hosted pad site. As a Campground Host, you have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors at Lake Cunningham while also helping others have a positive camping experience. At Lake Cunningham, we pride ourselves in reinforcing a friendly, helpful, and fun culture and we are looking for a Host who will join the Cunningham culture and be an impactful, positive, and friendly person for the camping community.

  • Must be 19 years or older
  • Must be willing to devote a minimum of 32 hours a week to the campgrounds
  • Must be on call in case of emergencies
  • Must provide their own camping unit and live on-site at Lake Cunningham
  • Weekends and holidays are included in time served
  • Greet campers, answer their questions and make sure they are enjoying their experience
  • Assist in operations of the campground which will include checking campers in and keeping track of campers who have checked out
  • Stay up to date with the daily campground schedule through our designated reservation system
  • Help maintain campground areas by picking up litter, cleaning up the campsite after checkout, replenishing bathroom supplies and assist in keeping the bathhouses clean
  • Contact park staff and other law enforcement personnel about emergencies
  • Other projects and assignments based on the park needs and hosts’ skills and interests
  • Complimentary designated pad site
  • Site has full hookup which includes water/power/sewer

Recreation Programmer

The Recreation Programmer position is for an individual, over the age of 19, who enjoys working outside and planning and executing camp activities for kids programming! This job will include many responsibilities, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful nature experience for youth! Our Recreation Programmer takes ownership in Lake Cunningham’s day programs and enjoys infusing their own creativity and talents into their weekly schedules. Not only will you oversee all youth activities and equipment, but you will also be asked to coordinate scheduled recreation programming events and plan and communicate logistics with different organizations in the community. Our Recreation Programmer staff is the backbone of our programs and therefore, we pride ourselves in giving them an incredible amount of support.

  • Must be 19 years or older and have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing to devote time to planning and executing scheduled programs and establish positive relationships with different youth groups and organizations in the community
  • Must have prior day camp experience or have been in a leadership role with youth
  • Must be CPR Certified or willing to become certified
  • Work with groups in the community to provide a fun, safe and exciting Lake Cunningham nature experience
  • Communicate via phone and email and coordinate monthly program schedules with various groups and organizations in the community
  • Work with and supervise kids in a supportive manner
  • Assign and plan daily program activities for groups to partake in
  • Greet kids upon arrival and transport them to the camp area
  • Establish emergency rules and safety procedures with campers and staff, especially with activities involving the lake such as kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding, etc.
  • Shop for camp supplies, staying in budget provided by Lake Cunningham 
  • Prepare activities in advance
  • Ability to cook over a bonfire and assist kids with their meal preparation
  • Manage any issues that may arise including, but not limited to, camper behavior issues
